As zombies surrounded the village, the townsfolk and guards fortified the hill around [[St. Bogdan's Church]], where the Gang, [[Irina Kolyanovich|Irina]], [[Doryan (Doru) Donavich|Doru]], and many villagers had taken shelter. The siege was led by the **Gallows Speaker**, who initially sought [[Irina Kolyanovich|Irina]]. After [[Zar]] convinced him that she had fled, he instead demanded [[Doryan (Doru) Donavich|Doru]] in exchange for sparing the village. The ultimatum divided the Gang and their allies over whether Doru should be surrendered. Before an attack could begin, [[Doryan (Doru) Donavich|Doru]] smashed through the church wall and fled. [[Zar]] and [[Erno Van Iche|Erno]] persuaded the Gallows Speaker to pursue him rather than attack the church, and the undead withdrew into the woods. No battle was ultimately fought, although the Gallows Speaker threatened to reconsider [[Kolyan Kolyanovich|the Burgomaester]]'s position and ordered the village's fortifications dismantled. The siege left [[Doryan (Doru) Donavich|Doru]] missing, with [[Strahd von Zarovich|Strahd]]'s servants pursuing him westward, but the village itself survived the confrontation.
