In [[001_20260429 Session 1|Session 1]], we learned:
- There is no formal postal system to speak of.
- According to [[Jander Sunstar]], [[Barovia (the Land of)|Barovia]] has three main towns, each with a shrine to the [[Morninglord (Temple)|Morninglord]]. These shrines are sacred ground, which protects them from [[Strahd von Zarovich|Strahd]].
- This land does not appear on any maps.
- This atmosphere is characterized by an [[Barovia (the Land of)#The Mist|ever-present mist]].
- People do not return from [[Barovia (the Land of)|Barovia]].
In [[002_20260513 Session 2|Session 2]], we learned:
- According to [[Stanimir]], we will not be able to freely travel back to [[Faerûn]].
- [[Erno Van Iche|Erno]] learned from [[Zar]] that this is a land where the sun never rises; any attempt to better one's plight are futile. It is an environment designed to depress its inhabitant. Souls are trapped even after death, reincarnated endlessly into this sad land.
- This land is full of monsters.
- A curse chokes all joy and life out of the flora and fauna as well.
In [[004_20260523 Session 4|Session 4]], we learned:
- The moon still appears in the evening.

| Faction | Description |
| ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------- |
| [[People of the Woods]] | The feral people of Barovia who have given up on civilization |
| [[Vistani]] | Mysterious tradespeople who travel between Barovia and Faerûn |
<!-- SerializedQuery END -->
## The Mist
The air is always full of mist. It is impenetrably heavy at the "edges of the world." It is thick with the faces of lost souls when the Vistani travel to and from Barovia.
## The Curse (of Strahd?)
The people of Barovia seem to think they are cursed. Their vegetables grow small, and the land is full of decay.
### The People
Having been born to unending sadness through many life cycles, these people have a sad to hostile affect and often suffer from paranoia.
### The Animals
During combat against some [[Dire Wolf|dire wolves]] in the [[Svalich Woods]], we saw that Stanimir's horses seemed depressed, hollow.
